First let me introduce myself: I’m Maurizio Gorini, the owner of Rozzo Pulcino. I turned 47 in 2009, and I founded Rozzo Pulcino in 1999. I’ve had a passion for the sea since I was a young boy.
My love story with boats back when I was small. My father was also a diehard seaman, and the two of us would go down to the port, which was structured differently back then, and go out on the water whenever we had a chance.
My true christening as a sailor took place at age 15. I started out on an old Fly Junior and quickly moved up to a 420. Once I’d gained a little experience, it was time for one of the mythical 470’s and entire afternoons spent with my friends hoisting and furling sails, from Piazza Bovio to Falcone. In the eighties my love of boats and sailing took me in a slightly different direction. For about ten years I was a windsurfer, racing in all the different categories and ending up my surfing career on the fun board circuits.
Starting in ‘89 I worked as an instructor at major sailing schools run by international tourist enterprises. It was a wonderful experience.
It was in tourist village that I met my friend the sailmaker. He invited me to come see him, once I came home to Piombino, in his splendid sail-making shop in another region of Italy. To my everlasting joy, I did just that. During the visit he asked if I wanted to work with him . I accepted and learned a great deal, getting even more of an education when I decided to try my luck as a businessman.

In 1999 I founded Rozzo Pulcino, choosing that offbeat name (“Rough Chick”) not because it has anything to do with sailing or the sea…but I’ll save the story of the name for later.
As I was saying, Rozzo Pulcino, which started as a charter company, was founded in 1999. In the meantime I was laying the groundwork for a sail-making enterprise. In 2002, when the work was finished on the port of Salivoli, the dream finally came true. Even though the structures on land for the port of Scarlino were behind schedule, everything was ready out at sea, and in Rosignano the work was moving ahead at a fast clip.
The rest of the story is today’s news: Rozzo Pulcino is in full operation. The sail-making shop is totally equipped, including a cutting plotter with azure projet design software, the standard program for laying out patterns on membranes. A total of 600 square metres with everything we need.
The sail-shop staff has solid experience and an extremely professional approach. Everyone who’s ever dropped by has gotten to know Silvana and Barbara, always ready to listen to our customers and find out exactly what they want.
